What's your passion?

Sacramento State offers a comprehensive university education. Here, you can study just about anything—from Business Administration to Theatre; Computer Technology to Russian; Criminal Justice to Nursing.

Small classes mean you'll get to know your professors

Our professors are known for great teaching. Nearly all (98%) have a Ph.D., and with a student-faculty ratio of 21 to 1, you'll get to know many of them on a first-name basis.

A real-world education for a real life

Sacramento-area employers value Sac State grads for their hands-on experience in the lab and in the classroom. Nearly 1 in 26 local residents is a Sac State alum.

At Sacramento State, "Leadership begins here" is more than a slogan. We offer students life-changing opportunities to become leaders in their communities. Opportunities to learn from great teachers. Opportunities for one-of-a-kind internships and research experiences. And, through our location in the heart of California's Capital City, opportunities to make a difference through public service.

The Campus

Sacramento State is a vibrant metropolitan university that is among the largest campuses in the California State University system. We enroll a multicultural student body of 28,000, and graduate about 6,000 students each year. Despite our size, quality teaching in small classes remains a top priority. Students enjoy personalized attention from their professors, as well as extensive research and internship opportunities in Sacramento, the heart of California government.

We're particularly proud of our beautiful 300-acre campus, with its lush landscaping and 3,000 trees. Miles of trails stretch along the nearby American River Parkway, linking our campus and student housing with recreational areas such as Folsom Lake and Old Sacramento.

Sacramento State remains one of the nation's best higher education values, with student fees among the lowest in the nation. About half of our students receive some form of financial assistance.

Planning for the future

Sacramento State is looking to the future with a major campus initiative—Destination 2010—designed to make this a premier metropolitan university and a destination campus for the West. Current students, as well as future students, will benefit from the changes and improvements to our academic program, student services and facilities. Included in the planning is a new Science and Space Center with a state-of-the-art planetarium. Also in the works are a large student recreation center, an arena and stadium upgrades within our Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.

The Sacramento Region

The city of Sacramento is one of the state's most affordable big cities, and the area has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The region's mild climate, rivers and nearby recreation areas make it popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Popular attractions include the State Capitol building, the State Railroad Museum and the Crocker Art Museum. Within easy driving distance are San Francisco, the Napa and Sonoma valleys, the historic gold country and the Lake Tahoe region's ski slopes.

Sacramento State offers a rich academic program that includes extensive internship opportunities for students interested in pursuing a career in public service. Our classes are small and are taught by professors who've completed the highest levels of education in their academic fields.

Sacramento State students enjoy personal attention from teacher-scholars who have made superior teaching a top priority. Our student-to-faculty ratio is 21 to 1, and our class size averages fewer than 30 students. We offer 60 undergraduate degrees and 40 graduate degrees, as well as two joint doctorates. Our larger programs include teacher education, business, computer technology, criminal justice, psychology and communication studies. And we have a new general education honors program for highly motivated students.

Among our programs linked to state government is the highly competitive Capital Fellows Program, in which graduate students work as full-time staff in state government.

Preparing for a career is a vital part of a Sacramento State education. We have one of the largest cooperative education program in California, placing students in paid positions where they receive academic credit. Hundreds of other students participate in business- and government-related internships. One in three Sacramento State students work as volunteers—many through a service learning project in class. Our Career Center helps students both with finding a career interest and with job searches, providing job databases and sponsoring an on-campus recruiting program.
